How are Open Assessments Different from Professional-Level Assessments?

The Open Assessments are free assessment of basic Scrum knowledge and can be used as learning tools when preparing for any other Scrum assessments. Passing the Scrum Open assessment is an indication that you are aware of some of the basics of Scrum. A consistent high score (95% or above) means that you are aware of many of the fundamentals, and may indicate that you are ready to deepen your knowledge through further reading or experience.

The Professional-Level assessments are intended to be taken by people who have an intermediate to advanced understanding of the Scrum framework, and a deep understanding of the specific roles the assessments correlate to. Earning certification displays a dedication to continued professional development, and a high level of commitment to the field of practice. Our Professional-Level assessments are grounded in the most recent version of the English Scrum Guide (and Nexus Guide for the Scaled Professional Scrum assessment), but the questions are quite difficult. Parts of the assessment may ask the taker to think about or interpret the meaning from the Scrum Guide, or in some cases, apply their own experience.

As the Open Assessments are study tools, they will not have the same level of difficulty as the Professional-Level assessments. We provide detailed feedback with specific questions and answers on the Scrum Open Assessment to help people grow their knowledge of Scrum. We are unable to provide the same level of transparency for our professional-level assessments, because we feel that doing so would encourage rote memorization and thus inhibit learning. This is why we provide feedback for Professional-Level assessments in the form of a bar graph depicting how well you scored in each category, so you can better direct your studies in the areas you are weakest in.
